ABOUT OUR TEAM

Leonard J. Cooper started Harvest Commodities Marketing, Inc. in 1989.  Harvest Commodities imports various specialized commodities and is a major importer of Psyllium Husk (Plantago Ovata) and Psyllium byproducts.  HCM also imports other hydrocolloids as well as various spices for the health and nutritional industry.  After graduation from Baruch College, City University of New York in 1975, Mr. Cooper joined Produce Dealers Corporation, a spice and coffee brokerage firm.  In 1978, Produce Dealers was sold to Balfour Maclaine International Ltd., a subsidiary of Kay corporation. Mr. Cooper ran a coffee brokerage division for them until March 1981 when he established L.J. Cooper Company.

John Rotelli joined the company in 1984. He is Vice President of both L.J. Cooper Company and Harvest Commodities.  With John’s help, L.J. Cooper Company became one of the largest green coffee brokers in North America.  While the coffee industry was consolidating in the late 1980’s and 1990’s, L.J. Cooper Company expanded its source suppliers and roaster contacts and has remained active since.  For many years John Rotelli had the esteemed honor of being Chairman of the Green Coffee Association and currently remains an influential member on the board of directors.  John traveled extensively to many of the leading agricultural producing countries during his illustrious career.

David Zummer joined Harvest Commodities as Vice President in 2014.  Under Lenny’s and John’s tutelage David learned the importance of building sincere relationships with customers as well as associates through tolerance, integrity, and hard work.  With these core values David has helped the company grow to be the second largest importer of Psyllium Husk in the USA and helped expand into other nutritional raw materials.  He also opened our own warehouse facility in Pine Brook, NJ which has greatly helped facilitate the logistics of our inventory.  Our FDA certified warehouse is managed by Mr. Jose Lugo who has 25 years’ experience in running a facility such as ours.

James Orlando joined Harvest Commodities in 2020.  With an impressive skillset and inspiring work ethic he rapidly ascended to Vice President.  James has been instrumental in the managing of logistics, acquiring new accounts, and assuring quality of goods.  Prior to joining the HCM family James worked on Broadway as a Treasurer for iconic productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, Hamilton, just to name a few.  Lenny, John, James, and David all work out of our offices in Ardsley, NY.
